Nylon, a polyimide resin, is a lightweight yet robust thermoplastic material. Its density is approximately 0.041 lb./cu.in. It's a resilient material with a low coefficient of friction, performing well in abrasion tests against metals, other plastics, and hard rubber. It can deform under load and revert to its original shape. Nylon maintains its impact strength across a wide temperature range (-60°F to 400°F). It offers good resistance to most chemicals and can be easily machined using standard metal working machines, power hacksaws, band saws, or circular saws. Using a saw with a coarse tooth blade is recommended.
