This is based on data gathered through the Nest’s online compatibility tool. Heating: 1, 2, and 3 stages (W1, W2, W3) Cooling: 1 and 2 stages (Y1, Y2) Heat pump: with auxiliary and emergency heat (O/B, AUX, E) Humidifier or dehumidifier (HUM, DEHUM) Fan 1, 2, and 3 speeds (G/G1, G2, G3) Power (C, RH, RC, R) The Nest Learning Thermostat is designed to work even if your home doesn't have a common C wire, but installing a new C wire or the Nest Power Connector is required in some cases. Note: Only one of the wires that go into the connector (HUM, DEHUM, E, W3, G3) can be connected to the Nest thermostat. The 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat supports systems with either multiple fan speeds (G2/G3) or with multiple stages of heating (AUX/W2/W3) and cooling (Y2). If you have a dual fuel system, a whole-home humidifier/dehumidifier, or a multi-speed fan, it is strongly recommended to choose professional installation.
